Jellyfish are boneless animals that float freely through the world's oceans. They live in coastal areas. There are a lot of kinds of jellyfish in the world, they can be found in all shapes and sizes. There are proximately 2,000 different species of jellyfish. The most common one is the big and colourful jellyfish found in warmer coastal areas. There are four types of jellyfish that are categorized by their shape and the way they behave.

Actually, jellyfish are not real fish but instead they are classed in a special group. The body of jellyfish is made up of a non-living jelly-like substance called mesoglea. This jelly is surrounded by a layer of skin that is just one cell thick. The body 90% is made of water.

Jellyfish have tentacles around their mouth. They use their tentacles to catch and sting their prey. Some jellyfish stings contain poison which the jellyfish uses that to stun and kill its prey. The box jellyfish, found in the ocean around Australia, has a deadly sting that can kill a human. The long tentacles of jellyfish produce the sting. But don't worry, we can touch the top of the jellyfish without getting hurt.

The jellyfish is a carnivorous animal. The jellyfish uses tentacles to stun its prey and bring them into its mouth. Jellyfish prey are small fish, eggs, and invertebrates. The jellyfish is transparent, it's often hard for predators to spot. Jellyfish are eaten by humans, sharks, squid, and occasionally birds. However, the jellyfish moves very slowly through the water. Jellyfish live in groups and their lifespan is around 1-5 years. Jellyfish release their eggs and sperm into the water, external fertilization. The jellyfish egg quickly become an embryo and begins to develop in its water world.
